Smoke warning issued in Johnston

SMITHFIELD -- Motorists traveling to and from Smithfield for the next several days could be met with heavy smoke from by a stump dump that caught fire in the Loop Road area. Emergency crews are working to control the fire. However, it is expected to burn for the next several days and will likely cause heavy smoke in the early morning and late afternoon, Johnston County officials said. Drivers are urged to use caution and neighbors with respiratory problems are encouraged to limit outside activities.
