Investigations

Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:

*Gerald Dana Lamb reported someone shot him in the leg at a home in the 200 block of Brandywine Drive at about 10:30 p.m. Feb. 24. Lamb, 27, of South Goldsboro Street, declined to cooperate with autorities and did seek to press chargs

*The Wayne County Sheriff's Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team charged a man for felony drug possession during a traffic stop in Mount Olive. Dominique Council, 25, of County Road, Mount Olive, was charged with possession of cocaine, driving while license revoked and seat belt violation. He was placed in jail under a $6,500 bond.

*Someone stole a hog transport trailer, valued at $57,000, from Goldsboro Hog Farms on Miller's Chapel Road.

*Toni Star Barwick reported Feb. 24 someone broke into her home in the 2800 block of Indian Springs Road and stole $1,000, a safe and birth certificate and social security card.

Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:

*The quick work of police led to the arrest of a man who allegedly was caught red-handed as he tried to steal items from a vehicle. Officers from A-Shift responded to a call about a car break-in in the 200 block of Rand Street about 3:30 a.m. Feb. 24 and allegedly found Dalton Alton Sherrod, 26, of Mount Carmel Road, inside of the vehicle. Police also found he allegedly broke into another vehicle in the 100 block of Rand Street. Police charged him with two counts of breaking and entering. He was placed under a $10,000 bond.

*Christine Tucker, a Goldsboro High School teacher, reported someone stole her IBM laptop, valued at $900, from her classroom.

Accidents

*Shirley Mack was injured when the Buick her husband was driving collided into a Pontiac on U.S. 70 East and Ash Street Sunday. Maurice Mack was attempting to merge onto 70 from Ash Street when he was struck by a Pontiac driven by Mary Ann Weller. Ms. Weller was east on 70 and was trying to turn into a driveway when the crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. It was unclear if Mrs. Mack, 46, of Beech Street, was transported to the hospital. However, Ms. Weller, 19, of Westfield Street, was cited for a safe movement violation. Damage was set at $4,000.

*Betty Jean Hobbs and her three passengers were injured in a one-vehicle accident Sunday when she ran off the road on Central Heights Road and struck a telephone pole.

Ms. Hobbs was trying to make a left turn on Central Heights Road from Berkeley Boulevard at about 4:20 p.m. when she ran off the road to the right, struck a speed sign and a phone pole. Ms. Hobbs, 38, of Bolingbrook Drive, Victoria Denise Hobbs, 19, Milton Hobbs Jr., 10, and Erica Hobbs, 8, were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment of nonlife threatening injuries. It was unclear what caused the accident or if a citation will be issued in the case.
