The Hispanic Community Development Center is seeking volunteers and vendors for the upcoming Cinco de Mayo festival.
The deadline for signing up is April 1 for the event, which will be held on May 5 from noon until 5 p.m. at the Waynesborough Historical Village at 801 South 117 Bypass.
In conjunction with the festival, the center will also host its third annual Health and Information Fair. So far, 21 medical and health oriented organizations have signed up for Cinco de Mayo.
The organizers are also looking for employers to set up booths for job seekers.
Organizers say the event is for the entire community, and it will feature live Latin music all day, lots of food, children games, grown-up games, dance performances, information fairs in English and in Spanish and the health screening booths.
For information or to volunteer call Willie Cartagena at 738-0604, his wife, Tammy, at 222-2650, or send email Ana Cruz at cruzingmom@yahoo.com.
The holiday observes a victory by the Mexican army over the French in 1862 at the battle of Puebla.
The battle and ensuring war eventually led to a friendlier relationship between Mexico and the United States, historians say.
Mexican independence day is celebrated Sept. 16.
