Black history exhibit items sought

Organizers of a Black History Month exhibit to be displayed at the Wayne County Museum next month are looking for photoraphs, memorabilia and artifacts to include in the collection.
People who have items they would like to see become part of the exhibit are asked to call Linda Daniels at 736-1872 or email ldaniels2@ncrr.com.
Black History Month celebrates a number of advancements by blacks in American History. Both Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln were born in February, as well as W.E.B. DuBois, a co-founder of the NAACP. Also in February, the 15th Amendment to the Constitiution was approved, giving black people the right to vote and the NAACP itself was founded, in 1909. For North Carolinians, the month starts with a special observance: the Greensboro sit-in that became a milestone in the civil-rights movement, occurred on Feb. 1, 1960.
