Tobacco buyout payments will be delayed several weeks, government officials said, due to computer problems.
Farm Service Agency officials said last week that farmers and former quota holders could expect payments by late this month or early February. But a news release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture said processing payments has been slowed by "web based performance issues," and that people are being asked to wait until Feb. 19 before calling about the status of their payments.
"We have been assured that FSA management is aware of the issues we are experiencing with the web based application," Wayne FSA Director Rick Tharrington said.
