Those watching President George W. Bush's State of the Union Address this evening will see more than a room full of elected officials -- they will see a member of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's 4th Fighter Wing, too.
Tech Sgt. Michelle Barefield, a member of the wing's Explosive Ordinance Disposal flight, has been selected to attend the nationally televised address for her actions in Iraq -- ones that led to her receiving the coveted Bronze Star.
During her deployment last summer, Tech Sgt. Barefield was a team leader, spearheading dozens of missions to clear bombs from desert roads. The airman said she and her teammates were involved in the safe detonation of hundreds of explosives in the six months she spent supporting Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.
