The Farm Service Agency expects the third round of tobacco buyout payments to begin later this month, officials said in a press release Thursday.

Payments could begin arriving in farmers' mailboxes as early as next week, said Rick Tharrington, director of the agency in Wayne County.

It could take several weeks to complete the distribution of payments, officials said. The Wayne County FSA office is still waiting for the U.S. Department of Agriculture to send the proper software to process the payments and officials said it should take about three weeks to complete the process.

In order to speed up the distribution of checks, the FSA office will be delaying some other activities. Contract holders that have questons concerning the receipt of their payments are askd to wait until Feb. 5 before calling the office..

Notice of payments will be mailed from the national payment center in Kansas City, Mo. Once the payments are processed, it normally takes 10-14 days before the payment notification is received. Contract holders with direct deposit should check their accounts before calling FSA. Payments made by check may be two to three weeks later.
