O'Berry Center will be transformed into a winter wonderland this week in time for the second annual community extravaganza Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the festivities, which will feature entertainment, lights and animated Christmas figures, games for children of all ages and strolling carolers in the park.

Dennis Mays, coordinator of professional services, said the event is designed to involve the surrounding community in what is going on at O'Berry.

"It's turning out to be wonderful," he said. "We're inviting the community to come back to this. We have 13 different groups coming out -- from church groups to the Princeton Elementary third grade coming out to do their Christmas play."

Plans for the event began in the summer and for the past month, staff has been busily decorating for the winter carnival. The path around the campus will also be illuminated by 500 candlelights and 800 luminaria, Mays said.

Preparing for a large crowd, there will be people to assist with parking and a shuttle service provided to transport around the grounds.

Entertainment will be featured in the chapel, in the gym and in the park, as well as an array of other activities at all three locations. There will be outdoor games and refreshments provided in the park and gym.

Berry Towne gift shop and Sweet Treats Bakery will also set up a display to showcase its culinary delights and handmade all natural soaps and lotions for sale.

Then, at 8:40, all the entertainment stops, just in time for "Frank's Fireworks Display," Mays said, referring to Dr. Frank Farrell, director at O'Berry.
