GREENVILLE -- Preliminary autopsy reports performed on a man whose body was found in the Tar River with the help of three Wayne County search dogs Nov. 29 suggest foul play might have played a factor in his death.

Robert Daniel Leggett, 25, of Greenville, was reported missing from a friend's apartment on Avery Street, said Shari Dennison, a spokesman for the Greenville Police Department. She said toxicology reports could take as long as six weeks to complete and that detectives are interviewing witnesses who were with Leggett on Saturday, Nov. 25, when he was last seen about 7 p.m.

After Greenville police failed to find the body, they called the Wayne Sheriff's Office for help. It took about 10 minutes for the three dogs sent by Wayne to locate the body.

Leggett's body was found submerged in about six feet of water, according to the investigation report.
