Parent advisory chairman honored

Thea Williams, chairman of the Wayne County Public Schools' Title I Parent Advisory Council, recently received a natioanl service award for her efforts on behalf on Title I schools.
She was awarded the William Anderson Service Award during the 33rd annual conference of the National Coalition of Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title I Parents, Inc., held in Los Angeles, California.
Mrs. Williams has been active in the local Parent Teacher Organization and helps with many school activities, including the recruitment of parents and working within schools during and after the traditional school day.
She provided parental input and met with consultants when the North Carolina State Department of Public requested feedback on the NC State Report Card. She also worked with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill when it requested parent feedback regarding the PIMS (Parents Implementing Math Strategies) Grant.
As Title I PAC chairman, Mrs. Williams worked with the Title I staff in preparing and presenting at the Title I Fall Parent Seminar.
