Crime of the Week

A string of armed robberies is the focus of Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers "Crime of the Week." In the past two weeks, eight businessess have been victims of these crimes. In each case, one to four black men have entered the businesses displaying handguns. In several cases, the suspects have fired their weapons.

Victims of the robberies include Dollar General on North Spence Avenue, Bojangles on U.S. 117 South, Family Dollar on East New Hope Road, Teasers on U.S. 117 South and Kangaroo on East Ash Street.

Witnesses have placed a dark gray Dodge Stratus in the vicinity of some of these locations around the time of the robberies.

Anyone with information about these robberies or the identity of these suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. All callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if their information leads to a felony arrest.

Investigations

Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:

*Goldsboro police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who injured a bicyclist on Spence Avenue and Ash Street about 6 p.m. Tuesday. David Damian Saville, 22, of Sherrell Place, was traveling east on Ash Street when he was struck by an unknown driver of a westbound Dodge pickup truck. Saville was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening. The accident caused about $100 damage to the bike.

*Goldsboro police are searching for a man who robbed Dollar General on North Spence Avenue at gunpoint and ran with an undisclosed amount of cash. The gunman entered the store at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. He aimed his gun at the cashier and demanded money. After receiving the cash drawer, the robber fired his gun and bolted from the store.

*Lawrence Merolin reported a man wearing a red bandana and a black jacket followed him to his vehicle about noon Tuesday, took his wallet from his pocket and ran east on Peachtree Street. The wallet contained $232, his driver's license and social security card. Merolin was not hurt during the incident. The alleged robber was described as a Hispanic man about 5 feet 10 inches tall.

*Someone broke into Eastern Wayne Middle School on Central Heights Road and went through several offices and classrooms at the school, school officials reported Tuesday. No items were reported stolen from the school.
