MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College will celebrate 55 years of Christian higher education at its annual Founders Day event on Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. in Rodgers Chapel. The Rev. Owen Peele of Bethel Original Free Will Baptist Church in Pamlico County, member of the MOC Agribusiness Advisory Board, will deliver the Founders Day address. The public is invited.
The Founders Leadership Award, sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. W. Burkette Raper, will be presented during the service. Employees celebrating continued years of service to the college will also be recognized.
Mount Olive College was chartered in 1951 and opened the following year with six students at Cragmont Assembly near Black Mountain. The institution was originally named Mount Allen Junior College. The name was changed in 1953 when the college moved to Mount Olive.
