'Scam Jam' Wednesday to show residents how to avoid con artists

Wayne County residents who want to learn more about how to avoid becoming the victim of con artists are urged to attend the "Scam Jam" Wednesday at the county Cooperative Extension Service at 208 W. Chestnut St.

The event will feature state Attorney General Roy Cooper, who will discuss how residents can spot scams.

Seniors and people who care for them are encouraged to attend the event, which will start with registration at 8:30 a.m. The event begins at 9 and Cooper will speak at 10:30.

Among the topic covered will be identity theft, investment scams, charity fraud and mail fraud. Attendees will be able to learn how to stop pre-approved credit card applications and how to spot prescription drug scams.
