Wild horse adoption Nov. 4-5 in Duplin

KENANSVILLE -- The U.S. Department of Interior and the federal Bureau of Land Management will hold a special wild horse and burro adoption at the Duplin County Events Center in Kenansville on Nov. 4-5.
The adoption will be held from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, with the remaining animals available for adoption on Sunday from 8 a.m. until noon.
Animals may be viewed by the public on Friday, Nov. 3, from 1-5 p.m.
About 80 horses and a few burros will be up for adoption, officials said.
Adoption fees start at $125. Included in the offering will be geldings, mares and yearlings. Oral bidding will start at 10:30 a.m.
"This is the chance to get the special wild horse or burro you have always wanted," bureau Director Mike Nedd said.

People seriously interested in adoption are urged to call ahead in order to be pre-approved and to avoid waiting in line. People are urged to remember that although the adoption process is simple, that anyone considering adopting a wild animal should remember that they are wild and will require gentling and training.
Since the program's inception in 1973, more than 200,000 animals have been adopted, with more than 3,300 in North Carolina.
