Clarifications

A story in Wednesday’s News-Argus indicated that attorney Ron Lawrence delivered a restitution payment in a case involving the former Doll House on U.S. 70 east that was shut down by county law enforcement officials.
Lawrence did not pay the restitution on behalf of the defendants, but was acting on behalf of the District Attorney’s Office in collecting and delivering the $6,820 check to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the civil case filed against the owners.
The money was paid by William Edward Zehnder and his wife, Lynda, who owned the property and were ordered by the court to pay restitution. They have paid the fines in full.
The Zehnders have maintained that they did not know of the alleged illegal activities going on at the location, which was leased and operated by Andy Howard. The Zehnders are now in the process of trying to recover at least a portion of the money from Howard, according to their lawyer, Tommy Jarrett.
A story on the District 1 race for the Wayne County Board of Education incorrectly indicated that Lehman Smith is chairman of the board. The chairman is John P. Grantham.
