The facts behind the facilities plan

Here is the background information provided from Wayne County Public Schools about schools in the Southern Wayne district of the county, presented to those attending Monday night's public forum with the master facilities plan committee to discuss construction needs. It was distributed to the advisory councils from each of the schools in advance and then handed out at the public meeting. Plans are for similar information to be distributed and then discussed at each of the remaining two forums scheduled around the county in the coming weeks.

BACKGROUND AND PLANS
BROGDEN MIDDLE - Constructed in 1926, capacity was 712. Renovations and additions were made in 1947, 1949, 1951, 1954, 1957, 1962, 1970, 1978 and 2002.

BROGDEN PRIMARY - Constructed in 1955, capacity as of 1993, 744. Renovations and additions done in 1962, 1973, 1975, and 2000.

*Mobile units: 2
*Facility plans: Cafetorium (21,702 square foot) and maintenance projects of electrical upgrades, HVAC upgrades, replace doors and hardware, floor covering, replace bathroom partitions, upgrade student drop-off.
CARVER ELEMENTARY - Constructed in 1995, capacity 651, no renovations and additions since.

GRANTHAM SCHOOL - Constructed in in 1938, original capacity 600. Additions and renovations in 1942, 1948, 1954, 1978, 1986, 2000, bringing capacity up to 850.

*Facility plans: New middle school for grades 6-8, 758 capacity (900 core), approximately 124,000 square foot building.
MOUNT OLIVE MIDDLE - Constructed in 1925, original capacity 602. Renovations and additions in 1949, 1951, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1979.

SOUTHERN ACADEMY - Constructed in 1939 (formerly Carver Elementary School), capacity as of 1971, 851. Renovations and additions in 1948, 1950, 1955, 1957, 1966, 1971.
