Armed robbery
Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to an armed robbery call after someone entered the Handy Mart on the 5400 block of U.S. 117 in Mount Olive and stole an undetermined amount of money. Sherry Lake told deputies she was counting cigarette boxes and had her back to the entrance when a 6-foot-tall black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt entered the store, went behind the counter, pointed a handgun at Ms. Lake and demanded money. The suspect then grabbed Ms. Lake by the hair and slammed her head into the cash register. After opening the register and taking the money, the suspect pushed Ms. Lake to the ground and left the store.
Burned car
Rhonda Blackman discovered the interior of her 2005 Chevrolet Malibu ablaze at about 5:30 Saturday morning while the car was parked on the 400 block of Charles Street. Blackman told Goldsboro police officers that someone broke into the car and set it on fire causing $4,000 in damage. The Goldsboro Fire Department was called to the scene, but the blaze was extinguished by the time they arrived.
House break-in
More than $8,000 in property was stolen from a residence on the 500 block of Boxwood Lane between noon and 5 p.m. Friday. Aileen Chatman reported to Goldsboro police officers that she left her home and returned five hours to find about $7,000 worth of jewelry from her home. Someone also stole about $1,000 in cash, a $70 jewelry box, a $200 PlayStation 2, another wooden box worth $30, a $50 piece of luggage, a $50 DVD player and $80 worth of DVDs.
Stolen tires
Someone broke through key locks at Rohr Tires on North William Street between 5 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. Friday and stole about $2,100 worth of tires from a trailer. Jerry Brooks told Goldsboro police officers that someone broke the trailer's locks and stole about 130 radial and 16.5-inch tires from his store.
