Healing staple Pinee back on shelves

An all-natural healing agent first introduced in 1928 is back on shelves in stores across eastern North Carolina.
Pinee, a staple antiseptic in homes and on farms for decades, has been re-introduced after several years of being off the market.
Kenneth Maxwell, president of Triple Creek Farms LLC in Pink Hill, obtained the rights to the product and is manufacturing it at a plant in southern Lenoir County.
Maxwell said reaction by customers to the reappearance of the product -- made from 100 percent pine oil -- has been overwhelming.
"Customer demand for the return of Pinee has been overwhelming," Maxwell said. "I've received letters from people all over the country praising the healing effects of Pinee and asking where they could find the product."
Maxwell said Pinee is made the same it way it always has been -- from the highest quality pure pine oil available.
The product is a derivitive of homemade healing agents made for generations by the inhabitants of the Carolinas and Georgia, who recognized early on the effectiveness of pure pine oil in preventing infections.
The aromatic oil is a proven aid in the prevention of infection associated with cuts, scrapes, burns, blisters, sunburns, skinn irritations and non-poisonous insect bits.
Also, Pinee Livestock Preparation, is back on the market as a safe and effective antiseptic for use with all types of livestock and pets.
For many families, the use of Pinee goes back to the days when mother or grandmother would use it to help speed the healing of cuts and scrapes. Many an eastern North Carolinian has grown up familiar with its strong pine scent and healing powers.
The product was made in Duplin County for years, before the company changed hands. Maxwell eventually obtained the rights and started manufacturing.
"People of all ages have counted on Pinee as a safe and effective antiseptic for themselves and their loved ones," Maxwell said. "We're pleased to be able to bring Pinee back to the market."
Pinee Unmixed Oil is listed with the U.S. Center for Drug Evaluation and Research as an over-the-counter drug and is registered with the federal Food and Drug Administration.
