Lawmakers and candidates to address regional issues

NEW BERN -- State representatives and candidates will be on hand to discuss regional issues Thursday afternoon with residents during a legislative forum in New Bern.
The forum, sponsored by the Eastern Carolina Council, will be held in Cravem Community College's Orringer Auditorium from 4-6 p.m. and include state Sens. Pete Bland and John Kerr and state house Reps. Alice Underhill and Larry Bell.
State House candidates Ronnie Griffin and Michael Speciale also will be in attendance, along with representatives from the offices of U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole U.S. Rep. Walter Jones.
Each representative and candidate will address specific issues regarding eastern North Carolina and the public is invited to give their input to the speakers.
A similar forum will be held next month in Mount Olive, this one concerning Wayne County issues.
At the Mount Olive forum, speakers will include Wayne County Clerk of Courts candidates Pam Minshew and Randy Winders, District Attorney Branny Vickory, state House District 10 candidates Van Braxton and Willie Ray Starling, state House District 11 candidates Griffin and Rep. Louis Pate, Rep. Larry Bell, Sen. John Kerr, Wayne County sheriff's candidates Ken Edwards and Carey Winders and District 3 Congressional candidate Craig .
The public forum, which is sponsored by the Mount Olive Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 6 p.m. at Mount Olive's Senior Citizen's Center at 711 Northwest Center St.
