Blood levels across the nation are critically low. To help make up the shortage, the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding an emergency blood drive Thursday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the chapter house at 600 N. George St.
Samia Garner, local blood services director, said there is a severe lack of three blood types -- O positive, O negative and A negative. Two other types -- B negative and B positive -- also are in short supply.
Walk-ins are welcome as well as appointments. To make an appointment or to obtain more information, call the Red Cross at 735-7201.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. People can give blood every 56 days.
