Jury selected for Wayne murder trial

Six women, six men and one male alternate juror were selected Monday to hear the case of a 29-year-old man who allegedly murdered another man during a gun battle in the summer of 2004.
The murder trial of Tavaris Kinte Woresly of North Jefferson Avenue began Monday with jury selection. Opening statements and testimony are expected to begin today.
Wayne County Assistant District Attorney Matt Delbridge will present the state's case against Woresly. Superior Court Judge Jack Jenkins will preside over the case.
Woresly faces one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of LaTerance Gooding, 30, of Hilda Place, which occurred on Aug. 22, 2004, in the 1100 block of North Jefferson Avenue.
According to earlier reports from the Goldsboro Police Department, Woresly allegedly fatally shot Gooding after an argument. Woresly also was wounded during an exchange of gunfire.
Police headed to a parking lot near Jefferson Court Apartments after receiving a shots-fired call and an investigation ensued. Woresly was arrested about 45 minutes after the shooting.
