The Foundation of Wayne Community College kicked off its annual campus fund drive to raise money for student scholarships Tuesday with a lunch for more than 200 of the college's faculty and staff members.
Last year, the campus campaign netted more than $19,000.
The foundation's community fund drive will start Oct. 18. Officials hop to top last year's total of $328,000.
In addition to obtaining hefty participation from staff and students, as well as the public, officials are also working to make the annual golf tournament more successful. This past year, the event brought in $53,000 to be used for scholarships and awards. The 2007 tournament will be held June 12-13.
In addition to funding students' education at the college, the foundation provides support for campus projects and employee recognition and offers cultural programs for the community. Last year, it awarded 373 scholarships worth nearly $191,000.
