Teen will answer murder charges

A 17-year-old Goldsboro teen wanted in connection with a double murder and a shooting is now in custody, police officials said.
Jerron Lamar Russell of Courtyard Apartments faces two counts of murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
Russell is accused of a crime that occurred Aug. 21. He eluded authorities and remained on the run for nearly four weeks. A recent incident prompted Russell to turn himself in Wednesday, said Sgt. Dot Ardes of Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers.
"After seeing his photograph on the late news last night, Jerron Lamar Russell telephoned the Goldsboro Police Department and asked for an officer to pick him up at his residence, so that he could turn himself in," Ms. Ardes said. "Russell was taken into custody without incident."
Russell and another accomplice, Roderick Miles Davis Jr., 23, of Slaughter Street, who is already in custody, are accused of shooting James Lee Croom, Trasond Javoy Gerald and Otavis McKinnon, police said.
Croom, Gerald and McKinnon were traveling in a blue Dodge Stratus Aug. 21 in the 800 block of Olivia Lane when Russell and Davis allegedly opened fire on the men. An assault rifle was believed to be used in the shootings.
Croom of Bizzell Court and Gerald of Prince Avenue died from their gunshot wounds. McKinnon of Courtyard Circle was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
