Virtual books available at county library

A "virtual library" is now available for avid readers without having to leave home.
Wayne County Public Library has added a database that allows for access to thousands of books, both in print and audio format, simply by getting on-line.
NetLibrary is an easy-to-use online library stocked with more than 24,000 full-text electronic books and over 1,100 audio books. Users can browse the collections and preview any work they might be interested in, either by viewing the text of an e-book or by listening to a sample from audio books.
Patrons can also check out materials by setting up a free NetLibrary account. Books can be viewed for up to 15 minutes. If checked out, the viewing time extends to four hours. Audio books may be downloaded to the computer's hard drive for 21 days, and during that time can be listened to or uploaded to a portable media player that supports Windows Media Audio format. They cannot, however, be burned to a disc.
After 21 days, the audio book no longer plays. Books cannot be renewed once the check-out time expires but may be checked out again immediately if available; audio books may be renewed once.
NetLibrary is offered through NC LIVE and requires an NC LIVE password. A password is available at the Library for card holders. Library cards can be obtained at the library or over the phone. Students from outside of Wayne County can get a free library card with an ID from a school in Wayne County.
An NC LIVE password allow access to NetLibrary and allows access to a variety of research tools available through NC LIVE..
