Duplin student wins ECU award

GREENVILLE -- The 2006 W. Keats Sparrow English Award recipients were announced Tuesday by East Carolina University officials.
The award is sponsored by the Friends of Joyner Library and is named in honor of Dr. W. Keats Sparrow, professor of English and Dean Emeritus of the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences.
Daniel Jerome Fussell III of Wallace, won first place, recognizing excellence in research and writing by students enrolled in English 1200 level composition classes at the university.
Papers submitted were judged on the quality of the research, as well as the quality of the writing.
Submissions were judged by a panel of faculty from the ECU English department and Joyner Library.
Joyner Library, and its Music Library branch, is the larget library east of Raleigh and boasts state-of-the-art research services, including significant collections of government documents, microforms, multimedia and North Carolina materials.
