School supplies for 200 children will be given away during a back-to-school party Saturday at the Hispanic Community Development Center at 309 Potts Road in Dudley.

The party will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m., with free back packs going to the first 25 school children to arrive. Every child receives a free bag of school supplies and a free hot dog, drink and popsicle, but the parents pay $2 for a hot dog and drink.

Organizers say Goldsboro Spine Center donated the money to buy the supplies. The center has received donations from Case Farms, Hands & Hears Outreach Ministry, Mt. Olive Pickles and Tri-County Electric.

All student age levels are included, from kindergarten to high school seniors. Proceeds from the event will go into a scholarship fund to help a Hispanic student enter the medical field.

If more backpacks come in than the number of children who attend, organizers say the center plans to donate the remaining backpacks to the Brogden schools.
