Marijuana plants
found, destroyed
A total of 191 marijuana plants were found Wednesday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad, just north of Holland Hill Drive in the Rosewood area.
The plants were discovered by officers on board the Sheriff's Office's helicopter, Raven. The officers then directed patrol deputies on the ground to the location.
The plants, if allowed to grow to maturity, had an estimated street value of $458,400, or about $2,400 per plant.
Arrest in break-in
A Dudley man has been charged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in connection with a break-in at a home in the Crestwood subdivision on Ridge Runner Drive .
Robin Earl Locklear, 27, of Golden Circle, was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond.
Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden said the stolen property had been recovered.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About $2,805 worth of property was stolen between June 29 and Wednesday from a home in the 100 block of East Dorothy Place near Pikeville, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Michelle B. Grzybek, reported the theft of about 100 music compact discs, 20 movie DVDs, jewelry, children's toys, a 10-foot stepladder, curtain valences, rolled coins and personal papers.
*A combination boom box and compact disc player was stolen Wednesday after a window was smashed at The Good News Gazette at 122 N. James St., Goldsboro police said. The stolen property was valued at $100. Damage was set at $100.
*A two-door, brown 1984 Toyota Celica was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from the 500 block of Cardinal Drive, police said. The owner and resident, Joseph Britton, put a $1,500 value on his car.
*A red 2005 Honda scooter was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from the 600 block of North Daisy Street, police said. The operator, Corey A. Artis of Goldsboro, said the key had been left in the scooter. The vehicle, owned by Gregory Bernard Hill of Goldsboro, was valued at $2,140.
Carjacking
A Goldsboro woman said her car quit running early today and a man jumped in and ordered her to drive to Pikeville, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Yolanda Simmons, 36, told officers that her car stopped on North Jefferson Avenue, just after she had turned from East Ash Street. The man jumped in at about 12:13 a.m., she got the auto running again, and he told her to drive, the report said. Ms. Simmons said her car stalled again in Pikeville, and the man got out and walked north on U.S. 117, the report said.
The suspect was described as black, with short hair, wearing a black T-shirt, dark pants, blue shoes and a baseball cap.
Accident
Damages were estimated at $7,500 in a three-vehicle collision Wednesday at South John and Spruce streets, Goldsboro police said. A westbound driver on Spruce Street, Michele Denise Worrell, 19, of Greenville, was charged with a stop-sign violation.
The report said Ms. Worrell's car had collided with a northbound auto that was driven by Delores Kennedy, 74, of Country Club Drive, Mount Olive. The impact of the collision then sent Ms. Kennedy's auto in a stopped, southbound truck that was driven by Bobby Gene Mason, 50, of Smithfield for J.P. Edwards Inc. of Smithfield.
