Results in from holiday campaign to catch violators

Fifteen motorists were arrested by Wayne County authorities and charged with driving while impaired during the first period of the annual statewide Booze It and Lose It campaign against drunken drivers.
Goldsboro police arrested eight drivers, including three who were younger than 21 years old, and the Highway Patrol arrested the other seven. The county's other law-enforcement agencies did not report any totals during the period.
The campaign, which started June 28, continues through tonight.
Police and state troopers filed 452 other charges between June 28 and July 2 while conducting 24 checkpoints and 21 random and saturation patrols.
Police charged 31 people with seat-belt violations and two with child-restraint violations. Troopers cited 23 with seat-belt violations and two with child-restraint violations.
Ninety drivers were charged by police with speeding, 14 with driving while their license was revoked, six with not having insurance, two with reckless driving and 68 with other traffic offenses.
The Highway Patrol charged 57 drivers with speeding, 13 with driving while their license was revoked, six with not having insurance, one with reckless driving and 90 with other traffic violations.
Eight people were arrested and charged by police with drug offenses, and officers filed 39 other criminal offenses. Police also apprehended two fugitives.
The police A-shift tallied the most charges, 125, including 101 for unspecified minor traffic offenses. C-shift officers made six arrests for driving while impaired, and D-shift issued 20 seat-belt tickets.
