Council to discuss new park alliance

Goldsboro City Council will hold its first meeting of the month Monday, after rescheduling last week's session due to Independence Day.
The agenda will cover more than a dozen issues, including one matter scheduled for public hearing - a non-contiguous annexation request by Bill, King and Novak properties along U.S. 70 West.
Other agenda items include discussion of site and landscape plans for three city projects, a few zoning issues and potential approval of the creation of the Stoney Creek Park Alliance, Bylaws and Master Plan.
Last month, Goldsboro Recreation and Parks Director Neil Bartlett said the Stoney Creek Park Development Committee decided to request that City Council members establish the Stoney Creek Park Alliance -- making the committee more official.
If council members approve the request, and adopt the bylaws, the group will apply for membership with the Wayne County Charitable Partnership in hopes of attaining non-profit status.
As a non-profit, the group would then be able to collect tax-deductible donations for the estimated $2 million park project.
Other items on the council's docket include approval of minutes from five previously held meetings and review of their consent agenda, which contains a contiguous and non-contiguous annexation petition and the downtown redevelopment plan.
As is their policy, at the end of Monday's meeting, council members will take comments from the public.
