GREENSBORO -- NC Community FCU, headquartered in Goldsboro, earned statewide recognition for its community service at the 71st annual meeting of the North Carolina Credit Union League in Pinehurst in June.
NC Community received the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award in recognition of the credit union's community involvement.
The award recognizes and promotes credit unions' social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve.
Credit unions enter the program in separate asset categories, which allows them to compete fairly against credit unions of equal size and resources. NCCFCU won first place in the $50 to $100 million-asset category.
NCCFCU was involved in a variety of community service projects. In selecting NCCFCU, the awards committee noted the credit union's program aimed at helping military members avoid falling victim to predatory lenders.
The credit union's Advanced Salary Program loan focuses on lower-grade airmen at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, providing a loan alternative that includes financial education as a means for airmen to build better budgeting and savings habits.
As the statewide winner, NC Community FCU's accomplishments will be submitted to a national awards panel for national award consideration.
The Credit Union National Association will announce national Dora Maxwell winners later this year.
