Man assaulted
A 31-year-old Goldsboro man was assaulted Tuesday night by his two former roommates in a home in the 200 block of East Vine Street, Goldsboro police reported.
Christopher Douglas Godfrey told officers that as he was removing his clothes from the home at about 7:40 p.m., he was threatened by a knife-wielding man. Godfrey said he left but came back, and a second man struck him in the ribs with a baseball bat, the report said. Godfrey recovered and stabbed the first man in the hand with a knife, the report said.
The alleged assailants, Edward Randolph Tibbs, 39, and Owen Michael Pope, 45, were charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon. Each was jailed in lieu of a $500 secured bond.
Godfrey and Tibbs were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Drug charge
A Wayne County sheriff's deputy spotted a man on a bicycle Tuesday night on Old Smithfield Road, and when he asked the man to have a seat in his patrol car, the man threw a package out of the window.
Sgt. Sherwood Daly retrieved the package from a ditch and found crack cocaine in a contact lens case. He arrested and charged Brian Edgar Lipscomb, 33, of J.J. Lane with felony possession of cocaine. Lipscomb was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
Robbery foiled
An armed man entered a beverage store Tuesday night, demanded money, fired a shot at the clerk and fled without getting any cash, according to a Goldsboro police report.
The clerk said the man entered K&S Beverage at 317 E. Elm St. at 11:39 p.m. The clerk was not injured during the robbery attempt. The suspect fled for no apparent reason.
The suspect was described as black, about 25 years old, 5-feet-10 and 150 pounds with short black hair. He wore a white shirt, jeans and a red bandanna.
Juvenile charged
A 12-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged in juvenile petitions with three offenses after he had called 911 and said he had been shot.
Sheriff's Sgt. Sherwood Daly and rescue personnel responded to a location on Oakland Church Road in an attempt to find the person. Daly said he could not find him, but a further investigation determined that the call was false.
The boy was found and charged with making a false police report, misuse of the 911 system and obstruction of an officer.
Driver injured
A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $14,400 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 12:03 p.m. Thursday when the driver swerved to the right to avoid a vehicle in her lane on Dobbersville Road near U.S. 13 and lost control of her car, the Highway Patrol said. The car then careened off the left side, striking a mail box and a driveway. Angela W. Barrett, 29, of Dobbersville Road, Mount Olive, was injured, the report said, but her condition was not immediately available. The other driver, Preston Lee Vernon, 19, of Bartlett Road, Pikeville, was charged with driving left of center. Ms. Barrett's SUV was valued at $8,000. Other damages were set at $400.
*A car was destroyed in a wreck at 4:35 p.m. June 13 in a driveway off Zion Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Roberto Sandoval, 36, of Outlaw's Bridge Road, Albertson, was not charged after he had made a left turn into the driveway and his car struck a grain drill. The car was valued at $6,000.
Handguns stolen
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Four handguns were stolen between Monday and Tuesday after a lock was broken on a shed in the 400 block of South Audubon Avenue, police said. The owner and resident, Jamie Lynn Bass, estimated the value of the firearms at $1,446.
*A handgun, a bulletproof vest, a laptop computer, a digital camera, a video camera, DVDs and a video-game system were stolen Tuesday after a window was smashed at a home in the 2800 block of McLain Street, police said. The resident, Ryan John Goulding, put a $2,600 value on his property. No damage estimate was listed.
*Five bottles of liquor were stolen between Tuesday and dawn today from the ABC store at 909 Landmark Drive, police said. The thief had broken a window to get inside and damaged two bottles of alcohol. Damages were set at $304. The value of the stolen liquor was not listed.
*A yellow and black 2003 Yamaha motorcycle was stolen Tuesday from the 100 block of Fallin Boulevard, police said. The owner and resident, Jorge David Lugo, said the bike was worth $5,000.
*A wallet with personal papers was stolen Tuesday after a car window was shattered in the 900 block of North Spence Avenue, police said. The owner, Glenda B. Lanier of Dudley, put a $12 value on the property. No damage estimate was reported.
Break-in
Jewelry, three televisions, three DVD players, a combination DVD player and video cassette recorder and $300 were stolen Tuesday from a home in the 2200 block of Arrington Bridge Road, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
The thief had damaged two doors to get inside, the report said. The resident, F.D. Leonard, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,529 and damages at $300.
