Eight members of Senior Girl Scout Troop 100 recently received Gold Awards at a ceremony at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

The Gold Award is the highest award given by the Girl Scouts. They include Sarah Compton, Mary Frances Gourley, Ashley Kemp, Katherine Lean, LeAnna Rothwell, Betty Brandt Rouse, Natalie Taylor and Anna Wilkins. They all received their 10-year membership awards, and Alex Hulse was also awarded a 10-Year Award.

In a recent write-up of their achievement, two of the girls' information was incorrect.

Katherine Lean is the daughter of Dr. Larry and Linda Rose Lean. She is a junior at Eastern Wayne High School. For her Gold Award project, she made 14 sock monkeys by hand for the pediatric ward at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Each monkey took about three hours to make, and each was unique. The project helped the children in the hospital fighting illnesses to know that someone in the community cared.

Natalie Taylor is the daughter of Dr. Steven and Pam Taylor. She is a junior at Eastern Wayne High School. For her project, she decorated her church nursery and ran two book drives. One book drive was for the Church Nursery and the other book drive went to the Wayne County Public Library.
