Pedestrian, driver
killed in Wayne
A pedestrian and a lone motorist have died in separate traffic accidents, the Highway Patrol said in reports that were not filed until Friday.
The pedestrian, Tammie Diane Flowers, 34, of 1720 O'Berry Center Road, was struck by a pickup truck at about 12:10 a.m. May 27 on U.S. 117, about a half-mile south of Arrington Bridge Road. No charges were filed against the driver, Clinton Dale Perry, 18, of Mount Carmel Church Road, Pikeville.
State Trooper R.T. Edwards said Ms. Flowers was walking south in the left travel lane, where she was struck.
Damage was estimated at $2,200 to the 1998 Chevrolet that Perry was driving and was registered to Dale Dwayne Perry of Mount Carmel Church Road.
Meanwhile, Goldsboro man who was injured May 13 in a one-car wreck died on Monday, the Highway Patrol announced.
Walter Johnson Jr., 72, of 111 N. Georgia Ave., was thrown from his car on Falling Creek Church Road, south of Sambo Lambert Road. State Trooper J.L. Graham said Johnson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Johnson's car had crossed the center line, then had run off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned, Graham said. Johnson was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where he died.
The 1994 Ford, valued at $3,000, was destroyed.
The two fatalities raised this year's total to 11 on Wayne County roads.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A computer, a television, a microwave, a television and video cassette recorder combination and a VCR were stolen from North Drive Elementary School, Goldsboro police said. The thief damaged 13 window screens and a door step. The stolen property was valued at $1,723. Damages were set at $475.
*Twenty light fixtures and seven windows were stolen between Friday and Saturday from a Habitat for Humanity storage building on Stephens Street, police said. The property was valued at $1,750. A concrete driveway also sustained $200 in damages.
*A red and black Honda four-wheeler was stolen Friday from the 2000 block of Old Grantham Road, sheriff's deputies said. Heath Lynn McGoldrick said it was worth $3,500.
*A red Tomas moped was stolen Saturday from the 3100 block of Central Heights Road, police said. Terry Lawton Carter valued it at $3,000.
