5 people charged
in vehicle break-in
Five people from Goldsboro were arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police and charged with felony breaking and entering of a vehicle, felony larceny and misdemeanor offenses.
Kevin E. Cooley, 20, of Hunter's Creek Drive, Corinthean Delano, 20, of Central Heights Road and Tyruss Jonathan Lawrence, 19, of Sanborn Place also were charged with injury to personal property and under-age drinking and possession of alcohol. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Bruce I. Coleman, 16, and Paige Pittman, 20, both of Sanborn Place, also were charged injury to personal property. Each was jailed in lieu of a $4,500 secured bond.
The five were accused creating a disturbance in the Pinewood Square parking lot in the 1000 block of North Spence Avenue by overturning carts, hitting vehicles with their fists, climbing on them and trying to enter them, the report said.
Teen faces charges
A Duplin County teenager has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with 10 felony offenses in cases involving stolen checks.
Thomas Sterling Gardner Jr., 18, of Coy Smith Road, Albertson, was accused of breaking into a Duplin County home on April 15, then stealing checks, forging them and passing them in Wayne and Lenoir counties.
Gardner was charged with four counts each of forgery and uttering in Wayne County and one count of forgery and uttering in Lenoir County. He was released from custody on two unsecured bonds totaling $30,000.
Gardner also was charged with breaking and entering and larceny in Duplin County.
Break-in charges
Goldsboro police charged Joel A. Register of Old Grantham Road with breaking into the Valvoline and Precision Tune oil-change shops on North Spence Avenue on Sunday and Thursday. Some stolen property has been recovered.
Register also was held on an outstanding warrant for unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Two other oil-change shops also were broken into between Wednesday and Thursday, but nothing was stolen, police reported. No one has been charged in the break-ins. A window was smashed with a ceramic statue at Retro Lube at 1000 Ninth St. Damage was set at $450. A bay window was shattered at Jiffy Lube at 2516 E. Ash St. Damage was put at $200.
Accidents
Two people were injured in five recent traffic accidents in Wayne County.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash Thursday on Royall Avenue near North Spence Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Heather Marie Drake, 18, of Hillcrest Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*A driver from Mount Olive was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 3:42 p.m. Tuesday at U.S. 117 and Old Mount Olive Road, the Highway Patrol said. Samantha Ann Lichthardt, 19, of West James Street was released after emergency-room treatment. Minh Siev Tran, 50, of Redfield Place, was charged with failure to reduce speed.
*A sport utility vehicle was destroyed after it struck a house at 10:43 p.m. Tuesday on South Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. John Cooper Underwood, 34, of Comet Drive, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The SUV was valued at $8,000. Damage was set at $10,000 to the home at 632 S. Beston Road.
*A trailer came loose from a sport utility vehicle and struck an oncoming car at 12:50 p.m. Monday on N.C. 581 near Rosewood Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver of the SUV, Kendreth Corbitt, 57, of Nahunta Road, Pikeville, was charged with failure to secure a towed trailer. Damage was put at $7,000 to the car, driven by Patsy S. Winders, of N.C. 581 North, Pikeville.
Man robbed
A man was robbed Thursday of $104 as he walked to his truck in the 100 block of Timothy Street, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report. Kevin Allen Monk of Newton Grove told deputies he was tackled from behind at about 11:35 a.m., knocked to the ground and robbed. The suspect fled toward Colonel Warrick Drive. The suspect was described as a black man wearing a white T-shirt and pants.
Weapons stolen
Seven firearms, valued at $5,125, were stolen Thursday from a home in the 200 block of Ole Vineyard Road, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
Roy Ray Bratcher, reported the theft of a 9-millimeter Glock handgun, a .380 Berretta handgun, two .22 caliber Smith and Wesson handguns, a Browning 30-06 rifle and two Browning 12 gauge shotguns. Boxes of ammunition, valued at $100, and $100 in cash also were stolen.
The thief inflicted about $200 in damages to two windows to get inside, the report said.
Deputies are investigating these other reports:
*A laptop computer, video-game equipment, a cable box and a modem box were stolen Thursday from a home in the 100 block of Randa Lane. Delbert Ray Leeper, estimated the value of the property at $2,500.
*A black, four-door 2000 Dodge Neon was stolen from the 2600 block of Grantham School Road, deputies said. M.D. Sullivan said the car was worth $2,500.
Copper pipe stolen
Thirty rolls of copper pipe were stolen between May 19 and Thursday from a construction site at Ashbrook Apartments on Randall Lane, Goldsboro police reported. The one-inch pipe, owned by Allen Grading Co. of Goldsboro, was valued at $7,000.
Missing
A 15-year-old Goldsboro girl was reported missing Thursday to Goldsboro police. Brenda Gray of 718-C E. Walnut St. was described as black, 5-feet-1 and 110 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When she was seen last at 1 p.m. Thursday, she was wearing a blue and white shirt, dark blue jeans, blue and white tennis shoes and a pink coat. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
