Old Timey Days set for June 10

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Seven Springs will celebrate its sixth Old Timey Days festival June 10.
Main Street will be closed from N.C. Highway 55 to Rockford Road from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the celebration.
Produced by the Seven Springs Area Historical Commission, the event will include a living history Civil War encampment with Union and Confederate troops, artillery with cannons, infantry and naval squadron. This year, the event will feature a realistic hospital with a military surgeon performing medical procedures.
A re-enactment of the Battle of Whitehall Bridge will take place at 2 p.m. and will also include sutlers, vendors who sold supplies to soldiers during the Civil War. At 8:30 p.m., the cannons will fire.
"If you've never seen an artillery fire at night before, it's a sight to behold," organizer Bobby Mozingo said.
Period displays will include wool spinners, cooking and washing. Entertainment will be provided by the Dulcimer Club of Eastern North Carolina.
Vendors will line Main Street with jewelry, kettle corn, books, T-shirts and Civil War memorabilia. Also at Old Timey Days will be children's games and a car seat inspection.
Old Timey Days will have food as well, with barbecue plates and sandwiches, hot dogs and drinks to be sold, with proceeds going to the Seven Springs Historical Commission to help with the town's museum.
"This the oldest town in Wayne County, and we wanted to revive the history," Karen Mozingo said. "We're trying to pick up what we can of the history and bring the town back alive."
Mrs. Mozingo said the event continues to grow. "We stared out with three re-enactors," she said, "and we've grown every year."
