UNION GROVE -- Avalanche, a seven-member band based in Goldsboro, took first place in the Battle of the Bands at the "Rockin' RibFest" in Union Grove on May 12.
The grand prize was $500 in cash, a trophy, and goody bags full of prizes. Avalanche was chosen over two other bands who also made it to the final round of competition.

Band members are d'Hemecourt, Ray Holmes, Rodger Gaisson, Jeff Howett, Scott Pittman, Tina Seldin Cash and Christy Ballance.
