Deployment of more than 700 airmen from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will continue through May, with the next round scheduled to leave Monday.

The deployments to various locations throughout Southwest Asia began at the end of April as part of an ongoing mission in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, according to a press release from the 4th Fighter Wing.

Public affairs officer Capt. Tana Stevenson said some groups have already left, and the deployment covers nearly every unit on base.

The airmen are expected to complete tours of four to six months.

While the ongoing deployment continues, other airmen will be coming home.

According to the 4th Fighter Wing press release, the majority of the roughly 500 airmen deployed at the beginning of the year will be home by the end of the month.

In December, Seymour Johnson officials said when May deployments began, Air Expeditionary Forces 9 and 10 would return home.
