Pizza restaurant
damaged by fire
The Always Pizza Time restaurant at 2410 N. William St. was heavily damaged Sunday night in a fire that remains under investigation, Goldsboro authorities said today.
Assistant Fire Chief Gary Whaley said the cause of the fire had not been determined and was being investigated by police.
Whaley said a fire engine company was returning to Station No. 3 on Patetown Road after answering a call on Alpha Court and saw smoke coming from the restaurant. The engine company reached the restaurant as someone called 911.
Three other engines, a ladder and a command car then responded to the 9:47 p.m. alarm. They needed almost two hours to put out the fire, investigate the cause and finish salvage work.
The restaurant, managed by Carol Warner of Rosewood, had closed at 9:30 a.m. The building is owned by a corporation in Fayetteville.
Whaley said the building was damaged extensively, but the exact amount of damages and the value of the building and contents had not been determined today.
The fire on Alpha Court was caused by unattended cooking. No damage was reported, Whaley said.
Meth lab found;
man is charged
A 40-year-old man was arrested Saturday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with multiple drug offenses at his home in the 1600 block of Old Smithfield Road.
Timothy Dale Rains was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell and deliver Ecstasy, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling drugs.
Drug squad officers said they found a possible methamphetamine lab in the home and asked the State Bureau of Investigation clandestine lab team to assess the potential hazard and collect evidence. The SBI determined that it was a lab, and Rains also was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.
Rains was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
About $4,000 worth of methamphetamine, $300 worth of Ecstasy, $200 worth of marijuana and five firearms were seized during the investigation.
A second man, Allen King Coley Jr., 47, of South Slocumb Street, was arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police and charged with a felony drug offense.
Coley was charged with possession of cocaine and two misdemeanors, possession of drug paraphernalia and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was jailed in lieu of a $4,500 secured bond.
Man robbed
A Goldsboro man was robbed early Sunday at gunpoint by four men in the back parking lot at Days Inn at 2000 Wayne Memorial Drive, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Anthony Robinson, 20, told officers that the suspects approached him at about 1:30 a.m. and one pushed him to the ground and stole his wallet that contained $150 and his car keys. The suspects fled in a red car.
The gunman was described as black, 6-feet tall and 220 pounds, and he wore a black shirt and blue pants.
Driver injured
A driver was injured in a two-vehicle mishap at 10 a.m. Sunday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, near Wayne Memorial Drive, police said. Charity Noranne Johnson, 19, of Piney Grove Church Road, LaGrange, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other motorist, Pearline H. Locust, 48, of Remount Road, was charged with a yield violation. Damages were set at $4,800.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About $470 worth of property and a coin collection were stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a door was damaged at a home in the 1300 block of Red Hill Road, s deputies said. Matthew Allen Page reported the theft of two stereo speakers, a cassette player and a camera. The thief inflicted about $300 in damages.
*A TVwas stolen Saturday from a home in the 100 block of D&W Circle, deputies said. A.R. Meinecke put a $300 value on the TV and set damage at $100.
*Two scooters, one burgundy and the other black, were stolen from a yard in the 5200 block of U.S. 70 East, deputies said. Danny Arlan Vail valued them at $1,250.
*Gunshots damaged three windows, two doors, sheet rock and vinyl siding in a vacant mobile home in the 600 block of Linen Lane, deputies said. Dorothy H. Garland of Wake Forest estimated damages at $605.
*Gunshots on Sunday damaged a window and two doors on a car in the 1900 block of North William Street, Goldsboro police said. The owner, Salando Newsome of Goldsboro, estimated damages at $1,800.
Missing
A 13-year-old Goldsboro boy was reported missing Saturday night to police. Mondareo Shantwaon Cutler of 1411 Herring St. was described as black, 5-feet-6 and 139 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When he was seen last at 9 p.m. Saturday, he was wearing a white and black shirt, black pants and boots. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
