Wayne Community College will hold two graduation ceremonies this week.

Commencement for adult high school and General Educational Development students will be held Thursday, and college students will graduate Friday. Unless it rains, both events will be held outdoors on the field of the college's main campus beginning at 6:30 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, ceremonies will be indoors and delayed an hour. Thursday's ceremonies would be held in Moffatt Auditorium on campus, Friday's would be held at First Assembly of God Church off U.S. 70 Bypass East.

Ninety-five adult high school graduates and 228 GED graduates are expected to receive diplomas on Thursday. Another 480 associate degrees, diplomas and certificates will be conferred on Friday, the highest number in five years.

Speaker for the curriculum graduation will be Kennon Briggs, vice-president for business and finance of the N.C. Community College system. Jimmie Ford a member of the state Board of Community Colleges, will speak at the Basic Skills Department ceremony.

Students will deliver the salutations at each of the ceremonies.

Desiree Zuniga, recipient of an adult high school diploma, will speak on Thursday. Suresh Bhagchandani, this year's Student Government Association president, will be featured during Friday's gathering.

One of the highlights of the college students' ceremony is the presentation of the George E. Wilson Excellence in Teaching Award. The recognition, provided by the Foundation of Wayne Community College for the 20th year, is presented to an instructor who exemplifies quality in the classroom.
