Cinco De Mayo celebration Saturday

The Hispanic Community Development Center will celebrate Cinco De Mayo with a festival Saturday at Herman Park, and Ana Cruz, who is one of the organizers of the event, said the center is looking for volunteers to help.
The festival will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade and opening ceremony at 11 a.m. at Herman Park. Events are planned through 5 p.m., with entertainment and games for children of all ages.
The Parade of 22 Nations will include many countries where the people speak Spanish, and it will end with Uncle Sam, Lady Liberty and an eagle. It is not a protest march, she emphasized.
Late sign-ups will be accepted between 8:30 and 9 a.m., and lineup begins at 9 a.m. at the Health Department. The parade will proceed down Herman street to Beech, turn right onto Beech an right again onto Jackson. The parade will end at the entrance at the back of Herman Park, where a stage will be set up for the opening ceremony.
Some of the participants representing Hispanic nations will be in native costumes, and participants from several of the nations will be performing dances.
At noon, the Spring Creek High School Band will be playing for an hour, and at 1 p.m. the dancers begin performing. There will be music by the band Toni Y Los Galleros del Norte in between the dance performances.
Children will be able to play games, win prizes and view a puppet show. There will also be face-painting, clowns and balloon sculptures, along with craft vendors and lots of food.
