Law officers to sell doughnuts for Special Olympics

Customers at Krispy Kreme Saturday will see something different. Instead of being served by the usual doughnut makers, they will be served by local law enforcement officers.
The Goldsboro Police Department and the Department of Probation and Parole's Division of Community Corrections will work from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise money for Special Olympics.
"Cops at Doughnut Shops" is part of the North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run.
During the event, law enforcement personnel will collect donations from customers.
Those donating $5 or more will receive treats from Krispy Kreme such as a glazed doughnut or even a dozen free glazed doughnuts. Businesses that make a contribution of $1,000 or more will receive a free Krispy Kreme doughnut party for their employees.
There will also be a doughnut dipping station where children can make their favorite doughnut and have their faces painted. There will be a dunk-a-cop dunking booth and McGruff the Crime Dog will make a special appearance. Police vehicles will also be on display.
The mission of the Torch Run is to raise funds for and awareness of the Special Olympics movement worldwide. Law enforcement officers from every state, 10 Canadian provinces and territories and five countries carry the Flame of Hope in honor of the Special Olympics athletes in their area and around the world.
More than 80,000 law enforcement officers from across the country, Canada and several other countries have raised $113 million since the Torch Run began in 1981.
