Council will wait to eye Paramount facade plan

Goldsboro City Council members discussed and voted on several issues at their meeting Monday, ranging from rezoning requests to site and landscape plans.
Also on the agenda was a proposal for what to do about the Paramount Theater facade, although no action was taken on the measure.
Council deferred some of its agenda items to the group's May 15 meeting, since Mayor Al King was absent. Mayor Pro Tem Chuck Allen presided.
Among the items covered Monday were two rezoning requests.
The first, a request by Bible Faith Missionary Baptist Church to move from Neighborhood Business and Residential to Neighborhood Business, was approved. The property is located on West Slocumb Street, between Harrell Street and Westbrook Road.
The second, a request by Wayne Pharmacy to move from Office and Institutional to Neighborhood Business, was also approved by the council members.
Council also approved site and landscape plans for a new subdivision, Bryan Pond Estates.
The agenda items deferred to the next meeting include two rezoning requests, which were skipped so that Mayor Al King could participate in the vote. These items require six out of seven votes for approval, and council members said they felt King should be present before action is taken.
Another item passed off to the next meeting involves a recommendation from the Inspections Department involving the Paramount Theater.
The item calls for the "sure-up and waterproofing" of the buildings on either side of the theater and stabilization of the Paramount's facade.
Council members said they felt more discussion on this issue was needed before a vote is taken.
