Couple charged
after store robbery
A couple was arrested Monday in connection with a convenience store robbery.
A clerk at The Pantry at 2007 Wayne Memorial Drive told Goldsboro police that a man entered the store at about 2:40 a.m., took a soda from the cooler, then pointed a firearm at her and demanded money from the cash register. The suspect took $64, told her to get in the bathroom and then fled on foot, a report said.
However, the man, who had a peg leg, fell and broke his other leg, police said. The man, who was unidentified, was arrested and taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Kellee Bavo, 21, of Corporate Drive, was charged with aiding an armed robbery and two misdemeanors, carrying a concealed weapon and not having an operator's license. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 secured bond.
Accidents
Six people were injured and damages were estimated at $26,500 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A driver was injured and her car was demolished in a wreck at 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Indian Springs Road near Emmaus Church Road . Suzanne B. Worley, 51, of Alice Drive, Seven Springs, was listed today in good condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed and suspicion of driving while impaired. The car was valued at $5,000.
*Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $12,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 12:50 p.m. Friday at U.S. 117 and Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Billie Carole McPhail, 64, of Virginia Beach, Va., and her passenger, Ethel O. McPhail, 86, of West Main Street, Mount Olive, were transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where their conditions were not immediately available. The other driver, Jovina Graciela Matuz-Reyes, 32, of Forestview Road, Dudley, and her passenger, Apolonia Almaraz-Sebastian, 25, of Baker Chapel Church Road, Mount Olive, were released after emergency-room treatment at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Matuz-Reyes was charged with a yield violation.
*A driver was injured and his car was destroyed in a wreck at 6:51 a.m. Friday on Tommy's Road near Wayne Memorial Drive, the Highway Patrol said. David Callejas Arroyo, 25, of Woodside Circle, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was charged with reckless driving. The car was valued at $3,000. Other damage was set at $1,500.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A hand-held computer, about 30 DVDs and a combination VCR-DVD player were stolen Monday from a home in the 500 block of Outlaw Road, deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, E.D. Hargrove, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,900 and damage at $350.
*Three pairs of Air Jordan tennis shoes were stolen Monday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Dawson Drive, deputies said. The resident, Anthony Matthew Oates, set damage at $150. No value was listed on the shoes.
*Two residents reported the larceny of more than $1,000 from their homes, deputies said. Tina M. Jones of Smith Winding Lane said $1,600 was stolen between Saturday and Monday. Aaron Blue Parker of Mitchell Road said $1,200 was taken between Thursday and Monday. No sign of forced entry was reported in either case.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Ten packages of meat were stolen Monday after a door glass was broken at a home in the 400 block of Frank Street, police said. The resident, Paul Antonio Moore, estimated the value of the meat at $200 and damage at $75.
*A compact disc player was stolen between Saturday and Monday after a vehicle window was smashed with a brick in a service station parking lot at 601 N. George St., police said. The CD player was valued at $100. Damage was set at $250 to the vehicle, owned by Angelina Powell of Goldsboro.
*A compact disc player was stolen Monday after a car window was shattered in the 2800 block of McLain Street, police said. The owner and resident, B.G. Austin, said the player was worth $50 and set damage at $200.
*A John Deere riding lawn mower was stolen between Sunday and Monday from a yard in the 1200 block of Atlantic Avenue, police said. The resident, Edward Lee Mitchell, put a $1,300 value on the mower.
Juveniles charged
Three teenagers were arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with assaulting a handicapped person and damaging his property.The suspects -- two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-olds -- were accused of beating a 14-year-old student who needed medical treatment for his injuries. The suspects were not identified because of their ages .
Woman charged
FREMONT -- When a woman was arrested Sunday by Fremont police during an investigation of property damage, she tried to kick out the front window of the patrol car before she was subdued, Chief Wayne Schwark said.
Debra Bates, 45, of Pinkney Road, Fremont, was charged by Officer Norris Thompson with injury to personal property in the 300 block of North Vance Street, assault on a law-enforcement officer and resisting arrest. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail under $5,000 bond.
