A Goldsboro woman was the People's Choice winner at the Mrs. North Carolina Pageant held Saturday at Gaston College.
Freda Jones said learning she had been chosen for the award, which was decided upon by the contestants themselves, along with the audience, was a proud moment.
"I felt so honored. It means a lot," said the 39-year-old mother of three.
Mrs. Jones was one of 16 women competing for the title.
Staci Wallace of Durham was chosen Mrs. North Carolina and will go on to represent the state in the Mrs. America contest. Rachel Lee Carter, Mrs. Catawba Valley, was first runner-up, April Storms Britt, Mrs. Southeastern North Carolina was second runner-up, Maureen MacDonald, Mrs. Piedmont Triad, was third runner-up and Nicole Hinson, Mrs. Wilmington, was fourth runner-up.
Mrs. Jones, who works for Rebuilding Broken Place, also attends Mount Olive College, where she is studying English education.
She was named Mrs. North Carolina Heartland last year and said she plans to continue to pursue the Mrs. North Carolina title.
Mrs. Jones, a native of Johnston County, said the support of her husband, William, and her three sons -- ages 8, 10 and 14 -- was crucial to her success.
