Three charged
in check scheme
Three people were arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony offenses in connection with a forged check scheme.
*Tony Foster Patrick, 32, of Central Heights Road was charged with forgery, uttering and attempt to obtain property by false pretense and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.
*Cathy Underwood, 26, of Central Heights Road was charged with attempt to obtain property by false pretense and two misdemeanors, possession of stolen goods and possession of drug paraphernalia.
*Ethan Scott Sellers, 27, of North Harding Drive was charged with obtaining property by false pretense and two misdemeanors, possession of stolen goods and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Each person was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $7,000 secured bond.
The three were accused of trying to pass forged checks at several banks. They were arrested by Officers Thomas Bailey and Jumario Artis at The Little Bank at 201 N. Spence Ave.
Marijuana found
Twenty marijuana plants were seized Monday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad near Pineview Cemetery Road in southeastern Wayne County after an anonymous tip.
The plants had an estimated street value of $48,000 at maturity.
Marijuana production should pick up as the weather warms, officers said. Anyone with information on any marijuana operation was asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at 731-1542 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
Boy, man released
A 2-year-old boy and a man who were transferred last week to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville for treatment after vehicle collisions have been released, a spokeswoman said.
The toddler, Jared Steven Carreno of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive, was run over April 11 in a neighbor's driveway. The driver and resident, Raul Pineda Ponce, 42, said he was backing up in order to cut grass. He was not charged.
Robert Floyd Wooten, 52, of N.C. 111 North was injured in a one-vehicle wreck April 10 on Big Daddy's Road. The car had run off the right side, struck a mailbox and stopped in a field, the report said. He was charged with reckless driving.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About 300 DVD movies, a jar of about $300 in quarters and other coins, $180 and a bottle of liquor were stolen between Monday and dawn today from an apartment in the 700 block of South Harding Drive, Goldsboro police said. The resident, S.N. Hamilton, said the DVDs were worth $6,000 and the liquor was worth $30.
*About $795 worth of tools was stolen between Thursday and Monday after a window was smashed in a WAGES van in the WAGES parking lot at 601 Royall Avenue, police said. Damage was estimated at $150. The tools included two cordless drills, a volt meter, an amp meter, a CO meter and a flashlight.
*Four chains saws and a pole saw were stolen between Saturday and Monday from a trailer in the 100 block of Moss Hill Drive, sheriff's deputies said. The owner and resident, Timothy T. Williams, put an $1,895 value on his property.
