The Wayne County Public Library is observing National Poetry Month with several events planned this week.
A "poetry slam" for high-school and middle-school students will be held Saturday, April 22, from 2 until 5 p.m. in the Gertrude Weil Auditorium at the library on Ash Street.
Poems to be entered in the event should be written on the theme "Respect." Prizes for the best poems will be given out. Guidelines and sign-up sheets can be obtained by calling Sue Geiger at 735-1824, ext. 5116.
Also, on Sunday, April 23, at the Steele Memorial Library in Mount Olive, poet C.K. Goodman will lead a poetry reading and open mic session. The event starts at 2 p.m.
