MOC graduation May 6

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College will graduate about 350 students at its 52nd spring commencement on Saturday, May 6. Graduation exercises are scheduled for 2 p.m. in the George and Annie Dail Kornegay Arena.
The commencement speaker will be the Rev. Gary Bailey, senior pastor at Stoney Creek Original Free Will Baptist Church. Bailey attended Mount Olive College in the early 1970s, earning an associate's degree. He earned his bachelor of science degree from North Carolina State University in 1974.
Bailey has served as senior pastor at Stoney Creek for more than 27 years. In addition, he has served the Original Free Will Baptist denomination in many capacities, president of the state convention from 1982 to 1986. He has also participated on the Boards of Cragmont Assembly, Foreign Missions and Home Missions.
The college will hold its traditional worship service in Rodgers Chapel the morning of graduation at 10:30. Dr. Penny Ziemer will be the keynote speaker.
Dr. Ziemer, who teaches English and religion at the college, received a B.A. from Meredith College, an M.A. from NCSU, and a Ph.D. in English with a directed studies concentration in religion from Emory University. She has taught at Meredith College, East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is currently interim minister at Carr Memorial Christian Church in Clinton.
