Traffic death
A 19-year-old driver killed 11 days ago in a single-car crash near Dudley had lost control of his car, investigators say.
The state Highway Patrol released the report on the accident Monday.
Jared Tyler Tracy of Club Knolls Road was partially ejected and pinned beneath the wreckage after the car he was driving overturned on a private farm path. The accident happened at 3:55 a.m., said state Trooper R.T. Edwards.
Tracy was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A passenger, Christina Rodgers, 25, of Greenville, had minor injuries but declined hospital treatment, the report said.
Tracy's 1999 Pontiac, valued at $3,000, was demolished. No charges were filed.
The death was the sixth this year on Wayne County roads.
9 hurt in wrecks
Nine people were injured and damages were estimated at $47,100 in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 6:28 p.m. Monday on Royall Avenue near Sunburst Drive, Goldsboro police said. Faye L. Lapean, 61, of Long's Plant Farm Road was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other driver, Renardo L. Roberson, 22, of Stadium Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation and hit and run. He was arrested on Spence Avenue, the report said.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:03 p.m. Sunday at U.S. 117 and Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound driver, Jay Michael Connelley, 18, of Ramblewood Drive, Mount Olive, was charged with a yield violation.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,400 in a two-vehicle crash at 11:41 a.m. Saturday on Westbrook Church Road near U.S. 13, the Highway Patrol said. Gary Allan Stover, 60, of Westbrook Church Road, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. The report said Stover was leaving a driveway and the pickup truck that he was driving had collided with a westbound tractor-trailer truck that was operated by Jarious Farrior, 58, of Rose Hill.
*A driver was injured and the car that she was driving was demolished in a wreck at 6:45 a.m. Friday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Hare Road, the Highway Patrol said. Christine Michelle Brown, 23, of Towbridge Lane was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $7,000. The report said the car had run off the right side, come back on the road out of control, run off the right side again, struck a ditch and overturned.
*Two people were injured and their car was demolished in a wreck at 2:17 p.m. Thursday on Rosewood Road near Shamrock Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Irene Josefina Lopez Matul, 23, and her passenger, Jacquelyn Michelle Lopez, 4, both of Round Top Lane, LaGrange, were treated and released from the hospital. Ms. Matul was charged with driving left of center. The report said the car had run off the right side, the driver had overcorrected the steering, and the car had run off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned into a subdivision sign. The car was valued at $5,000. Damage to the sign was set at $1,500.
*A driver was injured in a two-car, rear-end collision at 2:11 p.m. March 27 on N.C. 581 near Nahunta Road, the Highway Patrol said. Alice B. Mooring, 53, of Pinkney Court, Fremont, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were put at $200.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $15,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:40 a.m. March 27 at Rosewood and Perkins Mill roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Phyllis B. Morrison, 57, and her passenger, Elizabeth Ann Weeks, 13, both of Meredith Drive, and the other driver, Julie Michelle Perkins, 28, of Stevens Mill Road, were treated and released from the hospital. Ms. Morrison was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Ms. Morrison had started a left turn and her car had collided with Ms. Perkins' oncoming, westbound pickup truck.
Woman robbed
A woman was robbed Monday night of $20 by a black man in the 300 block of North James Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Pamela Bell, 37, of Goldsboro told officers that the man asked her for $5 and she pulled out a $20 bill and asked the man for change. The suspect reached in his pocket, but did not show a weapon, snatched the bill and fled, the report said.
The suspect was described as 5-feet-7 and 130 pounds with a thin build, and he wore a blue and yellow shirt and blue jeans.
Firearms stolen
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Nine firearms, valued at $4,575, were stolen Monday from an apartment in the 1800 block of McLain Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident, Ryan J. Goulding, reported the theft of six handguns, two rifles and a shotgun. No sign of forced entry was listed.
*A cash register with about $20 in change was stolen between Saturday and Monday from R.B. Crawford's store at 1405 Hinnant Road, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had smashed two windows to get inside, the report said. Damages were set at $75.
*About 100 compact discs, a CD player, three speakers an amplifier and a radar detector were stolen Monday after a window was broken at a home in the 1600 block of Palm Street, police said. The resident, David Coor, put an $1,850 value on the property. No damage estimate was reported.
*A thief smashed a vehicle window, damaged a console, slashed the vinyl interior and broke a framed stained glass window in order to steal a set of keys between Sunday and Monday in the 1500 block of East Mulberry Street, police said. The resident, V.N. Underwood, estimated damages at $705.
*A laptop computer and a tool kit were stolen between Sunday and Monday after a car window was shattered in the 1500 block of East Mulberry Street, police said. The owner and resident, William Richard Helms III, estimated the stolen property's value at $1,400 and damage at $150.
*A compact disc player was stolen Monday after a car door lock was damaged in the 1200 block of Parkway Drive, police said. The owner, Dion Limerick of Raleigh, put a $500 value on the player and estimated damage at $100.
