Wayne County Public Schools will hold kindergarten pre-registration at all 15 elementary schools on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

A child must be five years old on or before October 16 to register for kindergarten for the coming year. Parents and guardians must present an official birth certificate, immunization records, and a child's social security number. Birth certificates may be obtained from the Register of Deeds office in the county of the child's birth. A parent must also show proof of residence, such as electric bill or telephone bill.

North Carolina law requires that prior to registration, a child must receive a health assessment and vaccinations. The health assessment must be documented on an official North Carolina Health Assessment Report form available from the county school system, the county health department, and most pediatricians' offices. If needed, parents/legal guardians will be given a health assessment form during pre-registration that must be completed by the family physician and returned to the school by August 25.

Anyone unable to register their child on the designated day should contact the school as soon as possible.
