A man accused of running into two boys crossing Ash Street on their way to school was to have gone to trial today in Wayne County Superior Court.
Wilder Feldemar Mejia of Guatemala was expected to face charges of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving and driving while his license was revoked.
Court was expected to start at 11 a.m.
The two Greenwood Middle School students injured in the accident, Mackenzie Wessels and Carson Thomas, are recovering from their injuries.
The accident occurred Nov. 18 as the boys were walking to school, crossing Ash Street.
Meija was incorrectly identified by police at the scene. His lawyers later said he did not try to conceal his identity but that the language barrier led to the confusion.
District Attorney Branny Vickory said today that contrary to previous reports, he does not believe Mejia is a legal resident of the United States.
Meija has been held in the Wayne County Jail since he was arrested at the scene of the accident. His bond was set at $200,000.
